Many of you have received this. Very sorry to hear again that Red Knots in
Decline. We have observed this spring phenomenon on the Delaware Bay, twice. A
top birding destination...also top spot in the fall for hawks.

Dear Preston,
The news isn’t good for the little Red Knot. The New York Times recently
reported:
The number of red knots visiting the Delaware Bay beaches during this spring’s
northbound migration unexpectedly dropped to its lowest since tallies began
almost 40 years ago, deepening concern about the shorebird’s survival and
dealing a sharp setback to a quarter-century of efforts to save it.
This shorebird’s survival is more precarious than ever. But with your help, we
can turn the tide for birds like the Red Knot: Start your monthly gift today
and give birds the steadfast support they need to thrive, today and tomorrow.
Audubon is taking decisive conservation action for shorebirds including
implementing coastal stewardship through advocacy, education, and on-the-ground
disturbance management. We’re also defending and supporting policies that
enhance coastal resilience and working to protect coastal communities and
habitats most at risk from sea level rise and oil spills.
Preston, will you support this critical work with a powerful monthly donation?
The Red Knot has been in trouble for years, its population shrinking as its
food supply of horseshoe crabs diminishes, and as climate change alters its
coastal habitat.
This alarming trend earned it a place alongside birds like the Bobolink and
Golden-winged Warbler on Audubon’s Priority Birds list: species in urgent need
that would benefit most from our conservation work. These are birds at risk—but
they’re also birds we can help. And your committed support can give them a
better future.
The Red Knot and other struggling species depend on us to act. At a time when
we’ve already lost 3 billion birds since 1970, and a full two-thirds of species
are now threatened by climate change, we can’t afford to give birds less than
our very best—not when there’s so much we can do together to bring them back.
That’s where you come in, Preston. Help sustain our best conservation work for
the birds that need it most by making a monthly gift today. Join us, and
together we’ll build a brighter future for the birds you love.
Sincerely,
The National Audubon Society |
