Jenny Howard and I kayaked around Fulton Bay Wildlife Refuge today. Most of
our sightings were the usual summer residents with a few surprises.
In the back of the bay we came across a group of Green Heron young near
their nests. Three downy young at different stages clambered for safety when
they spotted us. This was the first time I have seen multiple nests in a
heronry style setting for Green Herons.
Other birds of interest were:
Wood duck - with young
DC Cormorant
Great Egret
Little Blue Heron
Green Heron
Osprey - 6 (1 flying juv and 1 still on the nest)
Bald Eagle - 2

Red-shouldered Hawk
La Waterthrush - 1 juv 2 adult
Orchard Oriole

Hap
Murray, KY
