I checked Freeman Lake on 3/27 and saw and photographed what were most likely the same 3 Red-necked Grebes as those I saw there on 3/9 and 3/14. Also present were 15 male Red-breasted Mergansers and 3 Horned Grebes (1 in breeding plumage). Four Pectoral Sandpipers fed along the edge of a farm pond in Larue County, south of the Greensburg Rd and 31 E intersection. Yesterday, 3/28, at the same farm, 3 male martins, 1 Barn and 11 Tree swallows were flying over another pond and 5 Gadwall, 4 Blue-winged Teal, and 6 shovelers were in a third pond. I also checked Salem and McDougal lakes but saw nothing noteworthy. Six Pectoral Sandpipers and a Lesser Yellowlegs were in a wet field in the McCubbins area. At our farm on 3/25, a Field Sparrow at one of our mixed seed feeders was the FOY in the yard. (A few winter at the far eastern end of the farm.) And this morning, a FOY Chipping Sparrow was feeding on the ground under one of the feeders.
