Alison and I began walking up Wash Gunn Road at dawn this morning. This put us
in view of back field pond at about .3 mile. There were 3 ducks of 3 different
species on the pond. First waterfowl of any kind I’ve seen in some while and
unusual anytime to see 3 species on this place. We walked back home and
returned with the scope for better pictures. None are great, but good enough to
ID Pintail, Green-winged Teal and Gadwall.
When we got back home, I made another trip to check the cattle. Spotted a
Shrike near middle pond - first one I’ve seen in over a year. While looking at
Shrike perched on a power line, a gull crossed my field of view. I followed it
until I lost it. By then the Shrike had moved and I couldn’t relocate it.
The pictures I took of the ducks with the point and shoot had more interesting
lighting than the closer shots I took a little later through the scope.
