Finally... after trying to figure out a bird that I saw several times last fall, it has made a return. Not only did I see it this time, but my daughter and her son, who have been enjoying the birds at their feeder this winter, saw it also. It was actually my daughter that ID'd it and hollered at me while I was at the store. She was excited to figure it out!!! And the ID'd bird is:....drum roll..........:) A Leucistic Red Tailed Hawk !!! She sent me a picture of one like it..and sure enough..that was it. She had actually asked earlier in the day if I didn't think it might be a Snowy Owl.. I said NO..definately NOT.. and then she read that sometimes they are mistaken for one.. This is a beautiful bird.. solid white with black wingtips. It flys like a hawk and maneuvers like a hawk.. and sure enough IS a hawk.. I tried and tried to figure it out last year..I just didn't find it.. I wish I could get a picture of it..but I never know when it's going to make an appearance. We've seen it for 3 days now.. but only on a flyby..it doesn't light anywhere. I just wanted to share this with you all.. debi lucas greenup co.
