Two miles north of Dot in Logan County - One of my nephew’s stopped by
yesterday afternoon. As we were shooting the breeze in the driveway, I noticed
a couple of Barn Swallows flitting in and out of the stable. Barn Swallows
failed to nest here last year for the first time ever. Fingers crossed that
they will give it a try this year. Northern Orioles sung from the tops of
Walnut trees and Chimney Swifts zipped in and out of our long unused chimney.
Still seeing Purple Martins at the gourds.
This morning soon after arising I stepped outside and heard a Barred Owl in the
distance.
Eric Nally’s beautiful post made me think of what sparked my own interest in
birding. My older than average parents seldom took me for walks at all, but one
of my older sisters, who left home for college before I even began grade
school, did take me walking on the rare occasions when she came back home. She
would point out birds as we walked and I credit her with making a birder out of
me. She still enjoys hosting birds in her Madisonville yard, but merely looks
sometimes at list serv archives rather than subscribing to it. I’ll tell her to
look for this post.
