[Frankfort, Franklin County] For those concerned about land torn up adjacent to
Cove Spring wetland, I spoke to city, county, and state officials, and received
this from KY Transportation Cabinet’s Div. of Environmental Analysis (via
Public Affairs): “Our Cabinet did conduct work in that area in order to repair
and replace a security fence because we were experiencing trespassing and
thefts. We are currently working in conjunction with the Kentucky Department
of Fish and Wildlife Resources and the Kentucky Division of Water in order to
remediate that area to their specifications. For example, we will be reseeding
with an environmentally sensitive annual seed mix in order to stabilize the
soil and prevent erosion, and then we will replant the area with native trees
and shrubs that will complement the restored stream and wetland complex.”
Also, while I had their attention, I asked if the Transportation building on
Mero St. could turn down the volume on its loud 24/7/365 recording of bird
distress calls, so that it would have less impact on wildlife on Fort Hill and
surrounding areas. I’m waiting to hear response.
