Subject: BirdKy =A0California Trip
I just returned from an enjoyable week of birding in the Santa Barbara,
California area. Birds of note found near the Pacific coast included
Snowy Plover, Wandering Tattler, Whimbrel, Long-billed Curlew, Marbled
Godwit, Black Turnstone, Parasitic Jaeger, Heermann's Gull, Elegant
Tern, and Black Skimmer. Birds seen at more inland areas included
White-tailed Kite, Vaux's Swift, Anna's Hummingbird, Acorn Woodpecker,
Nuttall's Woodpecker, Black Phoebe, Hutton's Vireo, Oak Titmouse,
Bushtit, California Thrasher, Western Tanager, and California Towhee.
Among several species of warblers were Black-throated Gray, Townsend's,
and Hermit. Two separate boat trips to Santa Cruz Island provided great
looks at Island Scrub Jay and an assortment of pelagic species =
including
Pink-footed Shearwater, Black-vented Shearwater, and Cassin's Auklet.
Competing with the birds for my attention were 30+ Blue Whales, 1 Minke
Whale, numerous Common, Risso's, and Bottlenose Dolphins, 1 Elephant
Seal, Harbor Seals, California Sea Lions, and a Blue Shark.=20
