We had a great CBC here in Todd/Logan County. I was on a route with
Marvin Beachy. We had a total of 83 species for our route. The highlight
was definitely the Say's Phoebe we found in the morning. Quite an
exciting bird! Other good birds we had were the continuing Rough-legged
Hawk and a second Rough-legged Hawk I found very close to the Logan/Todd
Co. line, 21 Short-eared Owls, 2 Fox Sparrows, 27 Brewer's Blackbirds, 1
Loggerhead Shrike, and 7 Least Sandpipers. Other good birds seen by the
other groups were 61 Greater White-fronted Geese, 1 Ross's Goose, 1
Dunlin, 2 Purple Finches, and 1 American Woodcock. Other totals for more
common species were 194 Red-tailed Hawks, 663 Killdeer, 101 American
Kestrel, 351 American Pipits, 134 Lapland Longspur, 78,779 Red-winged
Blackbird, and 10 Palm Warblers.
We ended the day with a total of 91 species. Thank you to everybody
that helped on this count and especially to Alan Troyer for organizing
and being the compiler.
Keith Yoder, Todd Co.
