Referring to "The Dictionary of American Bird Names," by Ernest A. Choate. I
read that Mr. Harris in 1843 was a companion of Audubon "whom Audubon called
one of the best friends I have in the world." Harris name was used to identify
both the Harris Sparrow and the Harris Hawk. Mr. Harris devoted his life to the
study of birds.
