I used to be able to call up a screechy pretty regularly on the bluff across
the river from
Jeff Sole’s end-of-the-road place. Not for 3 seasons now. Also, for at least 3
yrs. in a row, our Hart Co. CBC would finish up in Munfordville’s Thelma
Stovall Park right on the Green
River, where we’d call one in to just above where we were standing. Also not
for 3 yrs.
I only hear one from my road about once in Aug. Miss those haunting beauties.

All,
In Lincoln County, there’s at least three areas currently that I bird where
I can hear screech owls daily. I used to have them use a nest box I had put
up for them in our yard but I have not seen or heard them for three or four
years. The population of great horned owls in our yard area has increased
and maybe that’s affected our screech owls population.

Subject: [birdky] Eastern Screech Owl numbers question
All,
There has been 4 Owl Prowls in Lexington this winter so far. Each one has
come up blank where there usually have been multiple at each spot. I just
want to check on what others are hearing/seeing to make sure this is just
localized development/disturbances and not anything more. We’re also
missing out on our Talon Short-eared Owls but I’m assuming that is due to
either the winter that we are not having and/or development in the area.
