Male Hairy WP Male Downy WP side by side on the feeder. The Hairy was at the end of this condominium feeder attacking the suet while the Downy was on the side of the feeder peering into the middle compartment at the sunflower seeds. The red area at the back of the Hairy's head was interupted in the middle leaving that area free of color for approx 1 to 1.5 inch.I don't recall ever noticing this before. The field guides do not show the full back of the head of either bird. Is this separation of the red color line normal.
