I don’t seem to have much influence on shrike. I suspect we’ll lose
ours once most of the place is put in row crops. Although I’ll miss having this
place in meadow, I won’t miss all the things I had to do to care for cattle.
Long hours of tractor work was the worst. Helping with difficult births ranked
second.
My first cousin, Sonny Bailey called last night and asked about buying
my tractor. I’m ambivalent about whether or not I need to keep it, so I put
him off for the time being. His son wants to use it to operate a hay roller.
I’m not sure my tractor is quite big enough to operate a hay roller.
It’s puzzling why shrike doesn’t get flagged as rare by eBird. You and
I seem to be the only posters who ever see one.

Actually, to be honest …this Harlans doesn’t show a hint of reddish anywhere,
so I’d guess you have a different bird, there.
