At least two Common Yellow-throat pairs nested here last year, which was the
first we’ve ever had nest here. So, I eagerly anticipated their return this
spring, but by the middle of May I hadn’t seen or heard any. By the beginning
of June, I was starting to think they weren’t coming. By the middle of June, I
was certain they weren’t coming and decided it was time to be disappointed. By
last weekend, I wasn’t even listening for that witchity call.
Now, on the evening of June 27, after I’d long given up...there’s one singing
in the pond thicket :-).
