I was thrilled to see the comet in eastern Spencer County tonight. Thanks
to BPB for offering his farm as a viewing spot, and for guiding me to the
object in the sky.
I have tried to see all the visible comets in my lifetime, and have fond
memories of all of them. In Florida, for Halley's Comet, the beach
communities had organized light-dimmings at night, as the comet was visible
over the Atlantic. I remember there being lots of red plastic filters (thin
plastic sheetlets) distributed to cover people's flashlights; held in place
with rubber bands. When Hale-Bopp graced the night sky, I woke up my kids
to come outside to see it - and my older daughter still remembers this
experience, which is quite gratifying to me.
I'll try to see Neowise every night it's here. Only downside is that I
picked a bad week to send in my scope eyepiece to Zeiss for repair.
