I set my push lawn mower as high up as it will go. All our neighbors must set
their riding lawn mowers as low as they can. Short grass seems to be a
requirement for Chipping Sparrows. I never see them in our yard, but I saw one
this morning as we walked near a neighbor’s short grass yard.
On the subject of ticks - I find some crawling up my pants leg almost every day
in warm weather. Not many days go by without finding at least one attached to
me - both dog ticks and deer ticks. That’s been a thing all the way back to my
childhood. I hope that they have to embed for a while before they can transmit
disease, but it could simply be that I’ve been lucky so far.
