Cedar Creek Lake is one of my favorite places to bird by kayak. With all
the dead trees in the water and a variety of habitats it is very popular
with nesting Prothonotary Warblers, Red-headed Woodpeckers, Tree Swallows
and others.
The Ruddy Turnstone, first observed by Jackie Elmore on the 15th, continues
at Cedar Creek Lake and photos are on Ebird. It was in an area near the
beach but was not in a location observable from shore. There was also a
mixed flock of Semipalmated and Least Sandpipers at the beach.
The numbers of immature Double-crested Cormorants continues to increase
every year but this year, for the first time, I found a nesting adult
pair. The Osprey nest is occupied and appears to be a strong and sturdy
nest. No sign of the resident Bald Eagles. At some point their nest
collapsed some time after the first of the year.
