The other day I observed a pair of Canada Geese swim with their necks flat
out in front of them in a similar position that a female duck takes before
breeding. I was the only person present and as I walked around the pond they
would swim to the opposite side in the same manner described above.
The pond has a large area with good clumps of reeds and it was comical to see
them navigate through the reeds as if they were trying to avoid detection.
What on earth were these two geese doing? I have only seen them crane their
necks out like this when being aggressive. Any insight would be most
appreciated.
On a side note- I am hoping for this particular pond area will result in
Coots nesting and the opportunity to view some cute Coot babies!
