The Calloway County CBC was fortunate to be run on one of the most beautiful
days of the count period. We started at a low of 34 degrees and ended with a
high of 58. It was almost too pretty if that is possible. The lake level of KY
Lake was close to summer pool so no mudflats or islands were available for
resting birds. We had more participants than in previous years with 13 people
counting birds.
79 species were reported with a few big misses like Killdeer and Coopers Hawks.
Both seen on Count week but not count day. Highlights were one Merlin, 34
Forster's Terns, 2 American White Pelicans, all three expected owl species but
no Barn owl this year. Duck species were low due to lake levels and
temperatures. A Fish crow was heard count week but not count day.Thank you to
all who participated. It was a great day to be out.Hap ChambersMurray, KY
