After reading Jeff Wilson's post about the nesting Black-necked stilts in
Fulton County Melissa Easley and I knew we needed to go for a ride. We went
this
evening to see if the young had hatched.
Melissa first spotted 2 young while we walked along the field edge. Daddy
stilt was not pleased with our presence so we left the area. We birded around
Lake #9 then returned before dark to check on the family one more time. We
stayed in the car and were treated to great looks at four little fuzzy stilts.
Dad rounded them up for the evening and put them to bed under his wing while we
quietly watched. What a treat to see.
Check out Jeff's web page for pictures of young Black-necked Stilts.
