Matt Stickel called to say he found 4 under I-65 at 3:50 this afternoon. I found 5 just above the Falls of the Ohio and watched them 5:30-6:00 tonight. All seem to be immature/female. Were generally in the company of a dozen or so coots. The scoters floated downstream until they were about to go through the open gates and then flew back upstream a few hundred yards. The 5 stayed very close together, about a third of the way across the river from the Indiana-side park just above the Falls. Several times, I got to watch them stretch and throw their heads down as shown on p. 98 of Sibley.
