And of course you know why the cemeteries are fenced — people are dying to get
in.

It’s a nice place to visit, and apparently a nice place to stay, no
complaints and no one ever moves out.

Wow, the Lexington Cemetery, I have been there once. After a birding report
like this my vote for top birding spot in KY, and right in the middle of town.

Started early at the Lexington Cemetery hoping for the Blackburnian seen
there yesterday (nope), but the place was crowded with ruby-crowned kinglets,
many obliged us with nice views of their little red tufts. The cold gray
skies lit up with two male scarlet tanagers beaming like neon. Had a house
finch come into view as we followed more kinglets. A house wren sang and
posed. We watched a birder get chased by two Canada geese — whoever this
was, he was pretty nimble in his escape. A sharp-shinned flew over. Robins,
crows, blue jays rounded it out as we retreated to the car — 44 degrees over
there! A quick stop to see the neotropic cormorant (yes) also yielded
beautiful yellow-rumps and grackles and a mallard.
Driving up our driveway, we heard the wonderful sounds of prairie warblers
(FOS) singing in the cedars. Saw the blue gray gnatcatcher, heard a
yellow-throated vireo and saw two broad wings headed north. Up at the house
saw our faithful phoebe on her nest. Time for lunch!
