Some people don’t get it by simply listening. Having images of the bird
while listening helps. Some need more visual cues such as spectrograms of
the bird song. There is a good Peterson book with an accompanying website
so you can see the songs as you hear them. They also have a searchable
index based on the type of song.

I am terrible at IDing birds by song. When I went to Cherokee Park
yesterday, I heard birds singing all around me, but could not find them or
ID them. What is the best way to learn this skill? I listen to songs on
the Merlin app, but I soon forget which bird it belongs to. Any help would
be appreciated! You can reply off this mail list if you would like.
Thanks in advance.
