Months ago, I pried back the corner of a piece of metal siding on our stable to
make a peep hole for viewing our owl box. Fruitlessly checked it every day for
many weeks. Quit even checking for pellets daily after so long. Then, after
seeing Steve Tyson’s post about Barn Owls in his yard, I decided to check the
peep hole this morning. Saw 2 young owls peeping back at me. Tried a photo on
automatic. Saw nothing on the screen. Tried another. Still nothing. Tried a
flash. Saw eyes and nothing more. Walked on in the back entrance to try again.
The owls immediately withdrew within their box the moment I walked in. Thought
I had nothing, but after downloading, I upped the exposure the maximum amount
and got poor, but readable images on the 2 taken without flash. Flash one was
blurry. Even if this turns out to be my only opportunity to capture the little
guys, something is better than nothing.
