School has kept me grounded much of the year. I did have a new yard
bird....an Osprey the other night. I found it interesting that he was
sitting in a tall tree overlooking our pond.......and then saw that
he'd gotten a large bass. I told my husband that night and he was
impressed.....until he heard about the large bass. He decided he'd
allow him the 1 bass limit. When I came home from school the next
day he'd seen the osprey that day......with a large hybrid bluegill.
The osprey was less than pleased that my husband was mowing around the
pond on the tractor......but probably not as displeased as my husband
was with another fish. I guess they've come to an understanding that
the osprey had reached his limit....and moved on. I was tickled to
see one of the Red-headed woodpeckers return this week. After
watching the numbers grow from 1 to 8 over the past few years, they
are always a welcome sight.
Now about the mockingbird. I have a friend at school who admires my
mockingbird "pets" that I feed everyday at school out my window.
However, she has one that must be nesting in a fir tree next to their
house. Every time they come or go, the mockingbird gets pretty nasty
and flies at them. Any suggestions on how to handle it. Her
husband isn't a tolerant sole when he's attacked coming and going from
his own house.
