Apparently I heard a Common Nighthawk call about 5:30 PM from a roosting position. I was stopped in traffic when I heard one call at close range twice, but was unable to see one anywhere. I have seen them setting on the traffic light wires before. I assume this one was also, but I never spotted him before traffic started to move. Are they known to call from a setting position?
