I helped Chris Sloan band two more Rufous Hummingbirds in KY on Sunday morning. The Eklund's bird actually may be an adult female; Chris was having second thoughts on the drive over to Louisville; too much green in the central tail feathers. For the sake of the bird, banding is done as quickly as possible, and in-the-field measurements and quick overview of the bird sometimes yield different results than later analysis of the data. The Smith's bird in south Louisville did prove to be an immature male Rufous, a beautiful little bird that does, in deed, have some rufous feathers mixed into the back. bpb, Louisville brainard.palmer-ball@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
