We had a really nice day for doing the migration count NO RAIN! I've been whining all spring that we weren't getting any transient warblers, but some of the participants managed to find some. 14 field participants and 1 feeder watcher tallied 127 species. Thanks to Judy Brant, Rhonda Bryant, Lisa Brown, Granville Cox, Thelma Cox, Julie Denton, Allison Elliott, Laura Kamperman, Scott Marsh, Lynda & Tom Mills, Arlene Morton, Margaret York and John Zuercher for the help! Highlights of the count included 1 Peregrine Falcon, at least 2 tardy Sandhill Cranes, 1 Common Snipe, 1 Black-billed Cuckoo, 2 Alder Flycatchers, 6 Vireo species, 29 warbler species including 2 Golden-winged and 7 Henslow's Sparrows. I've pasted the totals below for those interested. ~Roseanna Denton~ Pulaski County, KY Great Blue Heron 16 Green Heron 5 Canada Goose 14 Wood Duck 8 Mallard 26 Black Vulture 13 Turkey Vulture 111 Osprey 1 Cooper's Hawk 2 Red-shouldered Hawk 5 Broad-winged Hawk 2 Red-tailed Hawk 13 American Kestrel 12 Peregrine Falcon 1 Wild Turkey 5 Northern Bobwhite 22 Sandhill Crane 2 Killdeer 47 Common Snipe 1 Solitary Sandpiper 6 Spotted Sandpiper 9 Least Sandpiper 5 Rock Dove 6 Mourning Dove 221 Black-billed Cuckoo 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo 11 Eastern Screech-Owl 2 Barred Owl 5 Common Nighthawk 5 Chuck-will's-widow 9 Whip-poor-will 13 Chimney Swift 76 Ruby-throated Hummingbird 8 Belted Kingfisher 4 Red-headed Woodpecker 15 Red-bellied Woodpecker 46 Downy Woodpecker 20 Hairy Woodpecker 3 Northern Flicker 17 Pileated Woodpecker 33 Eastern Wood-Pewee 42 Acadian Flycatcher 10 Alder Flycatcher 2 Eastern Phoebe 22 Great Crested Flycatcher 31 Eastern Kingbird 65 Purple Martin 142 Tree Swallow 36 Northern Rough-winged Swallow 77 Cliff Swallow 34 Barn Swallow 199 Cedar Waxwing 20 Carolina Wren 72 House Wren 4 Gray Catbird 15 Northern Mockingbird 171 Brown Thrasher 38 Eastern Bluebird 174 Swainson's Thrush 3 Hermit Thrush 1 Wood Thrush 46 American Robin 434 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 118 Carolina Chickadee 50 Tufted Titmouse 103 White-breasted Nuthatch 17 Loggerhead Shrike 3 Blue Jay 83 American Crow 124 European Starling 609 White-eyed Vireo 61 Yellow-throated Vireo 17 Blue-headed Vireo 4 Warbling Vireo 2 Philadelphia Vireo 2 Red-eyed Vireo 164 Blue-winged Warbler 2 Golden-winged Warbler 2 Tennessee Warbler 1 Northern Parula 25 Yellow Warbler 10 Chestnut-sided Warbler 1 Magnolia Warbler 5 Yellow-rumped Warbler 7 Black-throated Green Warbler 15 Blackburnian Warbler 1 Yellow-throated Warbler 21 Pine Warbler 27 Prairie Warbler 95 Palm Warbler 1 Bay-breasted Warbler 1 Blackpoll Warbler 14 Cerulean Warbler 5 Black-and-white Warbler 31 American Redstart 8 Prothonotary Warbler 6 Worm-eating Warbler 15 Ovenbird 47 Northern Waterthrush 3 Louisiana Waterthrush 6 Kentucky Warbler 7 Common Yellowthroat 97 Hooded Warbler 43 Wilson's Warbler 1 Yellow-breasted Chat 76 Scarlet Tanager 45 Summer Tanager 24 Eastern Towhee 68 Chipping Sparrow 88 Field Sparrow 67 Henslow's Sparrow 7 Grasshopper Sparrow 15 Song Sparrow 138 White-throated Sparrow 4 Northern Cardinal 191 Rose-breasted Grosbeak 4 Blue Grosbeak 8 Indigo Bunting 276 Red-winged Blackbird 226 Eastern Meadowlark 305 Common Grackle 173 Brown-headed Cowbird 68 Baltimore Oriole 11 Orchard Oriole 14 House Finch 37 American Goldfinch 142 House Sparrow 115 ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
