Hello all: This is really great that these cranes are being sighted! I will let Wisconsin DNR know. However, if you go out to observe, please keep the following in mind: The Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership (WCEP) asks anyone who encounters a whooping crane in the wild to please give them the respect and distance they need. Do not approach the birds on foot within 600 feet; try to remain in your vehicle; do not approach in vehicle within 600 feet or, if on a public road, within 300 feet. Also, please remain concealed and do not speak loudly enough that the birds can hear you. Finally, do not trespass on private property in an attempt to view whooping cranes. The folks with WCEP have gone to great lengths to restore this species and to keep the reintroduced birds wild. Please follow their recommendations for the safety of these birds. Thanks and happy birding!
