Asher,
Having struggled thru completion of the initial one, I have STRONGLY
recommended to NOT try another in KY. It's just too much work for too few
people to compile something that will be useful. I certainly believe it was
worth doing once. I provided the Board of KOS with a lengthy "position paper"
on the subject a couple of years ago.
I believe it would be much more useful to conduct focused efforts using birders
and eBird to survey 1) individual species of concern, 2) suites of birds of
certain habitats (e.g. grasslands), or 3) specific units of land (perhaps
mostly public lands). Someone would need to prioritize needs and coordinate
such efforts, but I guarantee it would be more useful than devoting limited
financial and volunteer time resources on a second atlas.
Long, VERY involved topic with many layers to consider . . . I am happy to
provide anyone with what I provided to the KOS board.

Are there any plans for a new Kentucky Breeding Bird Atlas? Looks like the last
one was completed in 1991, just over 30 years ago.
