While taking a walk in the snow today at the Ano Strip mines, mobbing crows caught my attention. I turned to see what all the fuss was about and found a SHORT-EARED OWL being harassed by approx. 15 crows. It began climbing higher and part of the crows split off. They had gone after another Short-eared Owl that had come up. The owls began climbing higher and the crows finally left them alone. Watching them against the blue sky sure was a beautiful sight! I made a stop to scan the trees at the cemetery hoping for the MERLINS Connie and I had seen there last Jan. and was pleasantly surprised to find one. It was an adult male. ~Roseanna Denton roseanna@xxxxxxxxxxx Science Hill, KY Pulaski County ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
