I scratched my head over the statement in the article at first because
Persimmon is a tree native to the southeastern United States and there must
be a thousand miles between the range of the tree and the range of Anna's
Hummingbird. I guess Persimmon must be widely planted as an ornamental in the
Pacific Coast states???

Subject: [birdky] Anna's Hummingbird enjoying the persimmons
While observing the stakeout Anna's Hummingbird here in Louisville, it was
often seen near the persimmon fruit left on the trees. It may also have been
gleaning insects but according to an article in Bird Watcher's Digest – "What
do Hummingbirds Eat?" by Kathy Piper –Anna's like persimmons!
https://www.birdwatchersdigest.com/bwdsite/learn/hummingbirds/what-do-hummingbirds-eat.php
"…Several species of hummingbirds find the sweet fluid of persimmons
appetizing; Anna’s hummingbirds seem especially fond of the juice, and there
have been numerous sightings of them at these fruits. Pears, oranges, and
prickly pears are a few more of the fruits whose juice may attract
hummingbirds."
