Last January the first week we did a long walk to see the only reported
American Flamingo in the northern half of Florida. It was at St. Mark NWR in
the Panhandle. A lot of birders made the walk as AF is on the rare side even in
FL, except at the Miami Zoo. The Roseate Spoonbill is more common, esp. In the
Everglades, where there is a nesting area 2,000 ft. from the road across a
swampy mangrovey lake. A few miles from Flamingo.
