Our Owl forecast turned out to be right-on for this afternoon. Debby texted me
15 minutes before sunset to say that there were two SEOW in the air above the
Trimble Road roost. I quickly scanned with the scope and could see them from
the driveway.
I hadn't thought about the impact of the ugly nocturnal weather on the Great
Horned Owls but noticed Mom was perched outside the nest, when I passed on my
way home from work. After checking on the SEOW, I scoped the nest and found
three sets of eyes, in fuzzy heads, looking back. This is the first time we’ve
counted three owlets in the several years we’ve watched them. They are
noticeably larger than last weekend and were really active; I’m guessing pretty
hungry after some lean nights. I assumed that Mom got weary of them and
escaped to a nearby limb, to wait for nightfall.
I Flickr posted a lousy low-light photo of the three, below.

Continuing the conversation from earlier this week… Considering the
persistently ugly over-night weather, recently, the owls should be out and
active early today. We will be out looking well before our 5:38 PM sunset. I
think the cloudiness is forecast to continue, so they may be active
especially early.
