Yesterday, Kemp Gilmer (Amy Gilmer's dad) called to tell me that he had seen a large number of duck species while fishing in a private pond. He asked if I would like to go there today to see if they were still hanging around. After he got through feeding cattle, he called and we met to go to the pond. There were still a good many waterfowl there. We had Canvasback, Redhead, Mallard, Ring-necked, and Northern Shoveler in a raft of approximately 75 individuals. Also present were American Coot, Canada Goose, and a single Red-necked Grebe. Missing were Wood Duck and Bufflehead which Kemp saw yesterday. All species except Mallard and Canada Goose are fairly uncommon in Russell County. Jerry
