Seven members of the Russell County Bird Club and one guest enjoyed a field trip to various sites in East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia today. We visited Clear Creek Lake (SWVA), Austin Springs (ETN), Paddle Creek (ETN), South Holston Weir Dam (ETN), Musick's Campground (ETN), and Washington County Park (SWVA). The weather was great and the birding just as good. We counted at least 69 species (list attached) on the trip or as various participants drove to the trip. Highlights included a Brant at Clear Creek Lake, 10 duck species, a transitional stage Bald Eagle along with several other raptors, and five woodpecker species.
