This evening Alyssa and I made our weekly trip to Keene mountain to monitor the
nest boxes there. We, as always, take a little time for birding and this
evening we found some pretty interesting birds. We found a singing Cerulean
Warbler in the top of an oak tree and I noticed another warbler flitting about.
I initially thought it was a Yellow-rumped, but after a better look noticed a
black eye stripe with a broken eye ring. The bird also had a yellow throat and
breast and dark streaking on it's flanks. After seeing these marks I decided
we must be looking at a Magnolia Warbler. It's probably just passing through,
not nesting, but still a nice spring find. We also saw a Broad-winged Hawk in
the same area for the third week in a row. This suggests it might have a nest
nearby? Finally, at Ken Horn's residence, we found a fairly large nest in the
crotch of a tree and upon closer inspection, saw a Crow sitting on it quietly
incubating its clutch.
