The Buchanan County Bird Club will meet for its regular monthly meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 13 at the Buchanan County Public Library. I will be presenting the program on some birds of the area. In addition to the program we will be discussing the Breeding Bird Survey for the county that will be held on Saturday, June 18. All walk-ins for our meetings or outings are welcome. Those wanting to meet for dinner before the meeting should come to the Peking Restaurant at the Grundy Plaza at 5:00 p.m. Come join us. I would also like to hear from those who are BCBC members on the following proposal. I have recently been in contact with Dr. Catherine Rasnake, the relatively new veterinarian in Grundy; she opened her clinic last year. I asked her if she would take in injured wild birds or animals at her Appalachian Animal Health Clinic. She said she would do that, and she asked me to inform everyone. So, for those of you in the area who find an injured bird or animal you can take it to the clinic just west of Grundy on Rte 460 or call the clinic at 935-9025. She was telling me about helping injured owls and other birds. Now for the proposal. Since she is willing to take in these wild creatures at no charge, I propose that the Buchanan County Bird Club donate $50.00 to her clinic to help with buying needed food or supplies for the wild birds and animals she is treating. For example, she told me that she has to keep frozen mice on hand for feeding owls and other raptors. The money might be used for something along those lines. Please reply to this email and let me know whether you would like to vote for or against this proposal. Roger Mayhorn Buchanan County Bird Club
