Pre-registration is preferred, but is not required. Pre-registration helps me
out because the information is captured electronically. When people fill out
information on paper, I have a hard time reading it. Consequently, they may not
get notification of their score. Also, if you pre-register, I can notify you of
any changes to the match, e.g cancellation due to weather. Since you don’t have
to pay in advance, there is no penalty for pre-registering.
