Hi Junia,
I talk to all the k-5 students during the last few weeks of school and
really talk up the local public library summer reading programs. I tell the
children that if they do participate in any of them, to bring in their log
of books they read over the summer. When a few of them do come into school
in the fall, I usually present them with a little gift from the library (a
fun key chain or such they can put on their back packs) and feature their
names in our Spotlight (weekly bulletin) that goes out to families.
That is about it! We want reading to be a joy and a pleasure for a
lifetime!!!
