I got up early expecting something similar to that SpaceX launch from
Vandenberg on Dec 22. The Atlas V first stage burns kerosene and LOX so
there shoulda' been a good exhaust plume. The launch azimuth was
announced as 151° so that was nearly the same as SpaceX. My camera was
ready with a wide-angle lens and intervalometer for time lapse mode. But
as the announced launch window (04:05-06:05) opened I saw nothing.
Waited 30 minutes but nada. Then my wife checked online for me while I
stayed at the camera and she discovered the launch had indeed gone off
at 04:05. But like I said, I saw nothing. Sky was clear here in New
River and I have a great view to the west, elevation 2200 ft. Did I miss
something obvious about the trajectory? Did anyone else see it? -Dan Heim
