Hi All, Pretty cool stuff from our very own Brent Achinal. Brent is a geodosist at the USGS in Flagstaff and a great amateur astronomer. He makes talks at the astroclubs and gets out observing when he gets a rare bit of time. Among the million other projects he's working on, he is figuring images from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter's cameras which have been photographing the Moon in very high resolution since ~last Spring; he's also working with the Mercury Messenger and co-authored _Star Clusters_--a seminal work of information on open and globular clusters. Anyway...check this out! Wow! Jennifer ----- Original Message ----- From: Brent A Archinal Cc: barchinal@xxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, April 13, 2010 3:38 PM Subject: Today's LROC Featured Image from me... Just wanted to send out a general message about today's (April 13) Featured Image on the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera website. Today's image and write-up were prepared by me. See the main page (for today) at http://lroc.sese.asu.edu/ or the full layout at the April 13 entry of: http://lroc.sese.asu.edu/news/?archives/180-The-Apollo-15-Lunar-Laser-Ranging-Retroreflector--A-Fundamental-Point-on-the-Moon!.html This is about a close-up image of the Apollo 15 landing site, which shows the laser retroreflector array that was left on the Moon, that is still used as a fundamental point for determining latitude and longitude on the Moon. - Brent -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list.
