Hello Arizona observers,
This is just a short message to tell you about a nice opportunity to look
at Jupiter tonight (Saturday May 26, 2018). The great red spot will be
transiting at 23:20 (local time in Arizona) while Europa will be projecting
it's shadow across the disk of Jupiter between 22h50 and 1h05.
Although Europa'shadow is not the biggest, this is a great opportunity to
observe both the great red spot and one of Jupiter's moon transiting + it's
shadow at the same time.
And since it's all happening centered around the time of Jupiter crossing
the meridian, on a Saturday night, at a reasonable time, with clear skies
(in Phoenix area at least) and with the Moon preventing deep sky observing,
I thought it deserved a quick head's up.
Should be a cool spectacle visually, but also a great opportunity to record
a long animation for those of us with a planetary-dedicated camera.
Clear skies!
