If you like to see comets.. Then maybe tonight can offer you a treat.. About 9:00 PM, comet Lovejoy will be passing by M79, a nice 8.5 Mag Globular cluster in Lepus. At 9:00 PM, the target comet will be about Azimuth 147, and Elevation 23 degrees. At 12:00 (Midnight), the target comet will be about Azimuth 192 and Elevation 30 degrees. This whole time, my Field of View for my Celestron Edge 8" (34 ArcMin by 25 ArcMin) , will contain the entire view. I will be centering on a star. GSC 6479:1132, and guiding on that location. Promises to be a splendid view... IF... the clouds cooperate. Yesterday, the forecast showed "all clear" tonight. Things have changed somewhat, but I am still holding out hope. Check you view from your yard. If you can see this area. Noted Azimuths are TRUE . If the clouds cooperate, you just might want to set up your equipment. I "played" with viewing (imaging) this thing last night, and developed my plan. Lovejoy is a BIG ball (much larger than normal stars in the FOV).. It is VERY bright.. AND, I really could not make out a tail. But.. This thing really moves along !!!! This APOD image will give you an idea... http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap141225.html JD Maddy, up in Clarkdale also posted a couple of nice images also.. https://www.flickr.com/photos/59454099@N00/15935676779/in/photostream/ Forecast for Monday night looks good too, But the view (framing with M79) will be lost.. Yeah.. There is a moon out there, but when looking for a VERY BIG BRIGHT Come... who cares ?? David M.
