James,
Thanks for your list. You note that there will be an occultation of Venus by
the Moon on Dec. 12. Below are predictions for the event computed for Gilbert
Rotary Centenniel Observatory (GRCO; the circumstances will be similar across
AZ):
1st contact (start disappearance): 2:28:34 pm MST contact PA 72 deg., cusp
angle -70 deg. N.
2nd contact (end disappeaarance): 2:28:59 pm MST Venus alt. 15 deg., az. 236
deg., Sun alt. 26 deg.
3rd contact (start reappearnace): 3:35:55 pm MST Venus alt. 2 deg., az. 247
deg., Sun alt. 17 deg.
4th contact (end reappearance): 3:36:09 pm MST contact PA 296 deg., cusp angle
+73 deg. N.
Conditions are poor, especially for the reappearance; it will be difficult to
see the 5% sunlit waning Moon, 25 deg. from the higher Sun. For those with
aligned GoTo telescopes, Venus will be at J2000 RA 15h 36m 30.1s, Dec -17 deg.
57' 22".
In about a week, I'll post extensive predictions of lunar occultations of stars
for GRCO for 2020 on our Arizona occultations page at
http://iota.jhuapl.edu/AZoccs.htm - predictions for the rest of this year are ;
already there. Last Sunday night (Nov. 24/25), we made quite successful
observations of the occultation of a 12th-mag. star by (21) Lutetia in n.w. AZ.
