Greetings,

This coming Wednesday we have a presentation from Robert Astridge (Robert
Astridge and Associates<http://www.astridgeassociates.com.au/>)
The presentation will be an overview of the large number of Linux applications
of use to technical writers.
The emphasis will be on the advantages of using the applications rather than
any technical examination of the various Linux operating systems.

Technical writers should be interested in the new applications available in
Linux simply because they offer such things as a full office package of
programs that are now largely compatible with MS Office.
Added to this are many other specialised programs such as project management,
graphics and image manipulation.
Another great advantage is that the operating system and programs are free to
use as well as being updated all the time - ideal for reviving that old home
laptop and putting it back into service.

Please let me know if you're interested in coming along.
(Sorry about the short notice.)
