You betcha. And I'd use that formulation too ('right-hand side' rather
than 'the right of the screen' or some such). Why? Because 'right-hand
side' is what most people _say_.

Re your client's resistance to using the hyphen, I've been noticing that
a lot lately: people (i.e. non-professional writers) just won't use
hyphens anymore (except incorrectly, as dashes).

I guess it's because they don't know what hyphens do; they don't know
why or how to use them. Another nail in the coffin of clear written
communication I guess.

One issue I'm not finding described in Read Me Fist! Is how to indicate
position on-screen, for instance: "go to the right-hand side of the
screen".

Should 'right-hand' be hyphenated here? Following the book would suggest
that, yes, the expression 'right-hand' should be hyphenated. The problem
is that there is client resistance to the formulation.

I think that an explanation of how to use corporate templates is
important but personally, I'd split the subject matter and have two
guides - one for template usage and one for writing.
