It's a good example of why it's hard to make substantial
updates to a very old product. It would require touching a lot
of the code, which then means having to do exhaustive
testing to make sure the changes haven't caused new bugs
to appear.
It's a shame, but I'd assume that any feature request that's
been around for a few versions won't be done now. If it were
practical they would have done it already, and vendors get
more money from adding new features than from improving
how a product works for existing customers.
