Geoffrey, Thank you for the information. Also, thank you for returning my call the other day. I will almost certainly join you in your class in Canberra in February. *Can you recommend any sources or books (in particular) in English usage that I could use beforehand to prepare? *As I mentioned in our phone call, I was born in 1952 and so was reasonably well educated (in Sydney) with regard to spelling, punctuation etc. I also have a Bachelor of Science & part of a Masters' degree in pharmacy, and so am vaguely familiar with referencing. I also have an innate interest in language. My wife is Chinese and a doctor trained in China. We do some translation and editing of medical and scientific papers (originally in Chinese) for publication in English. I rely quite a lot on the (Australian) *Style Manual for authors, editors and printers (Sixth edition)* for guidance. *Is this latter publication a good starting point?* ** -- Kind regards, Peter Johnson 10 Robson Street Garran ACT 2605 Australia Tel: 61 (0)2 6112 8108 (Engin VoIP) 61 (0)2 6281 5805 (PSTN) Mobile: 61 (0) 414 970 869 Fax: +61 (0)2 6112 8290 email: peterjohnson.oz@xxxxxxxxx Lat/Long -35.341776, 149.103828 On Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 1:11 PM, Geoffrey Marnell <geoffrey@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>wrote: > Dear austechies, > > A client in Brisbane has a need for an experienced technical writer to help > prepare bids for two large government contracts.
