Well, if you read the latest issue of Michael Quinions World Wide Words
newsletter (http://www.worldwidewords.org/nl/mnvc.htm - scroll down to item
3), you'll see that the final decision about the fate of the OED is
apparently yet to be made. The Daily Telegraph article Jasmine refers to
seems just to be quoting the Sunday Times article which contained the
'unguarded comment' of the Chief Executive of the OUP that led to
speculation which has now been rapidly hosed down.
